Sitigrid is proud to announce that it has become the first company in Great Britain to qualify as an Exempt Supply Notification Agent (ESNA), a new role within the Balancing and Settlement Code (BSC) which governs the GB’s electricity market arrangements.  This is a major industry milestone that marks a significant step forward in delivering fairer access to energy market benefits for customers and generators.

Through its ESNA service, Sitigrid offers electricity suppliers and intermediaries a turnkey solution for generators to supply electricity direct to their customers (known as exempt supply) which unlocks additional value that can be shared with those generators and customers. This service forms part of Sitigrid’s broader mission to empower more participants in the energy system, streamline market operations, and accelerate the transition to a smarter and more sustainable electricity network.

The ESNA role has been introduced following the implementation of the Ofgem approved BSC Modification P442, which was designed to ensure that exempt supply parties can fully realise their lawful entitlements in the electricity market. Historically, customers and generators have faced difficulties in claiming the full financial benefits available to them under CfD and Capacity Market regulations, including issues related to settlement processes and levies. The establishment of the ESNA role, and Sitigrid’s qualification as the first ESNA, provides a robust solution that brings clarity, compliance, and financial fairness to these parties.

Jeff Whittingham, CEO of Sitigrid, said:

"Qualification as an ESNA is a huge achievement, not just for Sitigrid, but for the wider market. We've worked hard alongside the industry to help bring this forward, and we’re delighted to be the first company to qualify through the complex ESNA accreditation process. It means that supply exempt customers and generators can now receive their full entitlements in a compliant, straightforward way, with Sitigrid providing the tools and services needed to make it happen. This is an important step in opening up the electricity market and making it work better for everyone."
