Electric Corby, in collaboration with Sitigrid, is excited to announce that they have been awarded a substantial grant to fund their groundbreaking energy project, CLEAR (Community-Led Energy Allocation for Renewable Resources) in North Northamptonshire. This project represents a significant leap forward in the utilisation of local green energy generation and peer-to-peer (P2P) energy trading.

CLEAR is funded through the Energy Industry Voluntary Redress Scheme[1] and is set to revolutionise the energy landscape by maximising the use of local renewable energy sources, such as solar power, by aligning them with local domestic customer demand. Through state-of-the-art digital technology, renewable generation will be matched with local customers, thereby reducing the reliance on grid energy and unlocking cost-saving benefits for consumers of c3.2p/kWh for matched electricity.

The project is designed to benefit a wide cross-section of society. Homes without solar panels will have access to affordable, locally sourced green energy, while households with photovoltaic systems will secure better prices for exporting their excess energy to the community. The best part is that participation requires nothing more than a smart meter, with no additional hardware installation necessary.

Electric Corby (a not-for-profit Community Interest Company) will be recruiting households in Corby initially to join the innovative energy sharing community. The project leverages Electric Corby's extensive experience in building energy communities and delivering successful technology pilots. In partnership with Sitigrid Ltd, an innovative platform provider for renewable energy matching, CLEAR aims to revolutionise the energy sector without necessitating complex regulatory changes.

"This project represents a major step toward creating a more sustainable and efficient energy ecosystem," said Tim O’Callaghan at Electric Corby. "CLEAR provides immediate access to cheaper, greener energy for households and incentivises the installation of new domestic photovoltaic systems. It presents a blueprint for maximising local renewable energy generation and consumption."

"Sitigrid is proud to collaborate with Electric Corby on the CLEAR project. Our vision has always been to enhance the energy sector by creating local energy markets that truly benefit both generators and consumers. This grant is a testament to the potential of peer-to-peer green energy trading, and we're excited to bring this vision to life in Northamptonshire." - Jeff Whittingham, CEO of Sitigrid

The grant awarded to Electric Corby and Sitigrid will be used to conduct a year-long trial of the energy matching service. With the potential for replication across the UK, CLEAR holds the promise of transforming how communities access and utilise renewable energy locally.

About Sitigrid Ltd:

Sitigrid creates local energy markets which unlock additional value for the generator and savings for the customer by matching small scale green generation to individual customer consumption on a peer-to-peer basis.

This matching also eliminates green washing with evidence that consumption in each half hour was indeed from green sources.

This innovative business model, enabled by Sitigrid’s technology, creates loyal and engaged customers and positions the supplier as a disruptive force in the energy retail market, whilst also encouraging further investment in green generation which is so essential if we are to achieve our Net Zero objectives.
